When the Coating Resists: Electrostatics on Dielectric Separator Application Lines.

If you've ever heard clicking sounds on the atmospheric section of an R2R production line, seen fine dust "jumping" from one section of the tape to another, or experienced an unexplained deterioration in adhesion on finished rolls, electrostatics are likely the cause. On modern R2R lines, whose process involves applying dielectric separator layers, static electricity is not just an annoying nuisance, but a serious threat to the process. Why is this important?

Let's talk a little about glass.

Despite its widespread use, much about glass remains unclear—in particular, its physical nature continues to generate debate among scientists. Although glass appears solid under normal conditions, its molecular structure and behavior are not typical of solids. This is because glass is an amorphous material, meaning it lacks an ordered crystal lattice like most solids. Its molecules are arranged randomly, giving it unique properties. For example, glass is often described as a superviscous liquid with a viscosity so high, compared to water, that it appears motionless and solid to us.
